Snow Days

On Monday of this week, the forecast had the panhandle of Florida on a winter weather watch.  Schools announced on Monday that there would be no school on Tuesday or Wednesday due to the threat of snow and ice.  With all this being talked about, I really tried not to make a big deal about it in case nothing happened.  Mary Varner has been begging, and even praying for months for  just one day of snow in her life( Even wanted to ask Santa for snow)!  Well, Tuesday ended up being a very wet, and cold day except for some sleet right before bed.  I promised Mary Varner that I would wake her up early if I got up, and saw any snow.  Well, before I went to bed (Jim was out of town) the forecast had gone from 1-2 inch accumulation to less than 1 inch.  I thought that it was not going to happen, and I would be dealing with some very disappointed little girls on Wednesday.  Well, Wednesday morning I woke up around 6:30 and saw snow and ice on the ground.  It was not a whole lot but it was there.  I woke the girls up and they started screaming and getting there clothes on to go out and see it.  They played outside for about two hours before they came in to dry out for breakfast. They played in it on and off all day and even on Thursday morning (school closed again)! I heard on the news that this was the first time in almost 23 years that the schools in Niceville/Destin had closed for a snow day.
