Mary Varner spent about an hour twisting and twirling up her hair until it looked like the fancy hairdo in her American Girl doll hairstyle book!  This is her showing off the side- twisted -half up do for the camera.

The girls have gotten into taking showers in "the big shower" together.  MV wrapped both of their hair up in a towel like I do when I get out of the shower.

Mississippi

 The girls and I went to Mississippi a couple of weeks ago to visit family.  Here are some pictures of many of the activities we did while we were there! 

 



The girls really enjoyed swimming in Mimi and B'B's new pool.  As soon as they finished breakfast, they would go straight to the pool.  Then they would swim again in the late afternoon.  I had to force them to come in during the middle of the day because it was just too hot!!

 

 

 

 

 

The Children's Museum is always a must when we are in Mississippi!!  Everyone always has the best time. 

 

 

I think it is so neat that our girls still have two great-grandmothers!

Rena usually tries to come up for a night while we are in town so that the cousins can play.  She drove up on a day that was a  rainy day.  It rained for most of the day, so when the sun came out that afternoon, Rena and I decided to take the kids for a bike ride.  Well, just around the corner from Nana and Grandaddy's house, Ben had a bike wreck.  When he fell off, he cried but it was more of a "I am mad" kinda cry and not the "I am in terrible pain" cry that I remembered from MV's leg break.  Rena got him back on the bike, and pushed him around the block.  When we got back to the house, he still would not move his arm nor let anyone near it. Rena decided that we needed to take him to get an x-ray.  I went along to help while the girls stayed with Nana and Grandaddy.  The x-ray came back that he had indeed broken his arm, and he was going to need surgery for it to heal correctly. Rena drove him back to Hattiesburg that night so their doctor could perform the surgery the next morning.  I dropped Mollie off the next day on my way back to Florida.  I am glad to report that Ben's surgery went well, and he is now on the road to recovery!

Gymnastics

The girls have been taking gymnastics classes this summer.  Janey is in the preschool gymnastics class, and Mary Varner is in the tumbling class.  Both girls  are really enjoying learning the moves, and were surprised when they had to actually work hard to do some of the things (I think they thought it was going to be a free play kinda thing).  We are halfway through our six classes for the summer.  I was wandering if they would want to keep doing gymnastics or if they would go back to dance.  After asking them, they both agreed that they wanted to continue with dance in the fall! Maybe gymnastics/tumbling will be a summer only activity.

We are on day four of nonstop rain!  Apparently there has been a tropical depression sitting over us, and has dumped over 13 inches of rain in the last few days!  The girls have decided the past couple of mornings to make the best of it, and go out to dance and play in the rain! 

 

Gulf Shores

 

 Our annual trip to Gulf Shores with Papa Doc, KayKay, Brad, Jennifer and the rest of the crew was last weekend.  We headed over on Thursday afternoon, and enjoyed three days playing on the beach, swimming in the pool, and hanging out together.

There was a snow cone stand set up at the pool.  The girls enjoyed their snow cones every afternoon by the pool.



Sweet Cousins

July 4th

We went to our neighbors to grill out, play games, shoot some fireworks, and eat homemade ice cream for the fourth of July.  After spending all day in the house due to lots of rain, we were all relieved when the rain finally stopped long enough for us to shoot a few fireworks.  Mary Varner had a fun with the sparklers, but Janey did not want to touch one. The dads set off some bigger fireworks for everyone to see, and the girls clapped and cheered from the porch.
