Mary Varner has always had an interest in putting letters together to try to make words. Well, since she broke her leg, she has really been "practicing" more and more. Also, she takes her leapster game to school to play during playground time, and a couple of her games have a spelling level that she LOVES to play(and has almost mastered). Anyway, with all that said, last night I was in the kitchen cooking and she called me in to the family room to see what she had written. I was expecting to see a bunch of letters that did not make real words, but I was very surprised to see she had written real words (4 to be exact).
Dog, Mr., Mrs., and Cat(No I did not help her in any way)

So, trying to see what else she could write, I said, "Well, if you can write Dog, then I bet you can write fog, log, jog etc.. She wrote all of these words and many more as you can see. THe only thing that I did was say the word, and she would sound it out as she wrote it(not me). We have practiced writing letters, and putting sounds together many times, but I guess the leapster games helped give her that little push to start doing it on her own. Here are some pictures of the ones she did last night.
