Field Trip and Crazy hair

I chaperoned Mary Varner's class on their field trip Tuesday to see the play, "Click,Click, Moo, Moo."  Each chaperon was assigned a group of students to be in charge of for the field trip.  Mary Varner was so excited that our group was the only all girl group.  We all enjoyed the play, and followed up with a relaxing picnic lunch afterwards.

This week has been Red Ribbon Week at school.  Each day has been a theme day to say no to drugs!  Thursday was crazy hair day. "Hairs to a drug free life"

Busy Week

We started last week with the girls being out of school for a teacher workday/student holiday.  We had lunch with Jim, and then went to the pumpkin patch!

The girls have been doing lots of writing lately.  Mary Varner brought home this story she wrote about what she would have done if she had discovered America.  Her teacher was so amused by her story that she allowed her to bring it home to share with us before she displayed it in the classroom.

 Janey has been learning numerous sight words, and practicing writing with her sight words.  All she wants to do is write sentences all the time at home.  I, can, my, and like were the sight words they started about two weeks ago, and she wrote these sentences using them the other night for fun.  Translation: I can hulahoop, I can play on the black top, I can jump, I can do push up, I can run, I can jump rope, I can toss the ball, and I can get basketball.

 We headed to Mississippi on Friday afternoon to attend Jim's 20 year class reunion on Saturday.  John and Rena and their kids came on Saturday.  The children all enjoyed decorating pumpkins on the front porch while the adults watched the Mississippi State/Kentucky game. After the game, the adults headed to the reunion.

Piano Recital

Mary Varner had her first piano recital this past weekend.  The formal recital is scheduled for this Saturday, but since we were going to be out of town she performed during the dress rehearsal instead. She did very well, and was not nervous at all.  There were about ten adults with their children there for the students to perform for each other.

No more training wheels!!

The day after we got home from camping, Janey started riding her bike without training wheels!  She has now gone on a couple of bike rides around the neighborhood without stopping or wrecking.

We( mainly me) watched the MSU vs. A&M game on my phone while at the beach on Saturday.  John put the Mississippi State logo in the sand when we won the game.

Annie fell asleep in the carrier on Rena's back while we were walking back from the bathroom.  Rena decided that she would lay down too so she would not disturbed Annie's much needed nap.  Eventually, I helped slide Annie out of the carrier, and she continued her nap on the blanket.

I purchased this ball that is made to bounce on top of water the last time we came to the cabin.  Well, everyone enjoyed tossing the ball around on the water.  It was cool the last day, so this gave everyone a fun activity option instead of getting all the way in the water.

Heart Check up

We had Janey's annual heart check up the last week in September.  She loves to go to her heart appointment, and gets very hyper when we are there.  This year we were not expecting an echo, since we had one last year, but Dr. Davenport thought he heard a vessel leaking.  An echo was done, and her congenital valve and the vessel in question were doing fine.  Janey amused everyone when the doctor was listening to her chest, and he had the stethoscope close to her belly.  She said, "  That is not were my heart is, it is over here", and pointed to her heart.  Dr. Davenport said that is all his years of being a pediatric cardiologist that a child had never correcting him on being in the wrong spot.  We all just laughed!  It is always music to our ears when he says, "see you next year".  We give God all the glory!

Two weeks

Here's what has been going on around here for the past two weeks.

Last Saturday, Mary Varner could barely finish her breakfast because she wanted to make a model of Charlie.  She said she had been planning it in her head all morning!!  

MV and Janey had auditions for, "The Nutcracker," at their ballet studio.

Mary Varner was assigned a project for school.  The project was to create a map of your neighborhood.  She was suppose to include two streets, a title, a map key, and at least five other details (ex. stop signs,etc).  She work on this map all on her own, and even when I was trying to help her color it in (b/c I could tell she was tired) she would not let me.  Anyway, she presented her map to the class, and the teacher liked it so much that she asked to keep it to show to next year's class.  Of course, Mary Varner told her that she could keep it!!  

It was a beautiful day here on Sunday!!  Jim took both girls out for a Sunday afternoon ride in the Corvette

Janey decided a very long time ago that she wanted to be Elsa(from the movie Frozen) for Halloween this year.  I found this costume a few months ago on a super sale.  It came in yesterday, and Janey put it on immediately.  She has already asked if she could wear it to church this Sunday.  I have not decided yet if she will wear it to church or not.

Mary Varner decided to put her "glamorous witch" costume on as well.  She has a piano recital coming up in a few weeks that they are suppose to dress up to represent the piece they are playing at the recital.  Mary Varner's song is about witches.  Since we needed  the costume for the recital, she said she wanted to wear it for Halloween too.  It was very important to her to find a pretty witch costume and not one that was mean looking.   It is a little short, so we agreed that she will need to wear her black leggings.
