Kindergarten Field Trip

Last Friday, I went with Mary Varner and the entire Kindergarten(about 115 students) on their first field trip this school year.  We went to see the play, " Harry, the dirty dog", that a group from Broadway was touring around the country performing.  When I signed up to go as a chaperon, I could mark that I was taking my car or riding the bus.  I marked riding the bus because I knew that Mary Varner would love to ride the school bus!  I was right, she was probably more excited about getting to ride the school bus than going to the actual play.  We had a great time, and I enjoyed getting to know her classmates that she always talks about!

Janey's 1st field trip

Janey's 3 year old preschool class took a field trip to the pumpkin patch last week.  We had lots of fun listening to stories about pumpkins, taking fun pictures, digging out pumpkin seeds and planting them to take home.  Janey picked out two small pumpkins for us to bring home.  Mary Varner and Janey had fun decorating those pumpkins that afternoon.

Weekend of Fun

John, Rena, Ben and Mollie came down this past weekend to go/enter the Vettes at the Village car show. On Friday evening, Rena and I took the kids to a fall festival that Mary Varner's school was hosting. We thought it would be a great way to entertain the kids while Jim and John shined up their cars for the show the next day. The festival was packed, but the kids still had a great time playing, eating, and getting their faces painted.

Playing

We have been enjoying playing outside in the cooler temps this week!  Jim was off work on Monday for Columbus Day, and when MV got home from school we all played outside for the remainder of the day!   I love the milder weather, but do not look forward to the time changing in a few weeks because that means less time to be outside in the afternoons!

Janey missed this one, but she did hit a few that Jim threw her.  She was very serious about having on her game face.

Mary Varner hit almost every ball Jim threw her, and even hit one over the fence into the neighbor's yard.

Sick Days

Both girls have been sick this week.  Mary Varner stayed home on Monday and Tuesday with a fever and sore throat, and Janey got up on Wednesday running fever.  We have been home all week trying to rest, and get back to normal!  This was Janey this morning watching Sesame Street on her pallet she made for her and Christmas baby.

Good Citizen

Mary Varner has been learning how to be a good citizen, and all about the Constitution in school this week.  Last night as I was going through her papers from the week, I came to this picture.  I asked MV to explain the picture to me.  She said, "That is a picture of how I can be a good citizen."  I said, " Oh, great! Tell me how you can be a good citizen."  MV replied, " I am pointing the shot gun at the ground closer to the person's feet, and not in the air towards his head.  I am being a responsible citizen."  I started to chuckle, and told her that her daddy was going to be so proud of her for knowing her gun safety!!  I bet none of the other children came up with this for their picture of how to be a good citizen!!  Jim thought it was GREAT!!

First Test

Mary Varner had her first "real" math test last week.  Kindergarten does not give grades so to speak on their work( satisfactory/unsatisfactory), but she did do a review paper the night before to study for her test.  Mary Varner really thought it was big kid stuff to have a "real" test, and as you can see she did very good on the Math test.

    The back of the test had a few more of the same counter boxes/ write number in blank problems.  This is the first paper that has come home with an actual grade on it.  Everything else usually has a smiley face on it.

Heart Checkup

Janey had her yearly heart checkup last Friday.  We did not need an echo cardiogram this year, and the E.K.G was really fast!  Dr. Davenport gave us a good report that her valve defect is not leaking, and that it is still functioning as a normal valve.  We will go back on a yearly basis until she gets older, and then we will go every other year.  We praise God that He has kept our little girl's heart healthy!
